Hi! Welcome to my blog – Diary of an Interior Novice. I am an Australian living in London with my husband (Big J) and toddler (Little J). The idea for this blog came after the purchase of my first flat and I realised that I had no idea how to take the empty shell we moved into and turn it into a comfortable family home. After spending lots of time and money on design books and magazine subscriptions, I fell in love with interiors and design. So much so, that I decided to give up my 9-5 corporate job in IT and pursue an Interior Design diploma while looking after Little J.

I decided to create a place where I could catalogue and share everything I’ve learnt, my idea’s and inspiration. The result is this blog. I hope you enjoy my on-line notebook.

Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi Doris
Just discovered your blog today – I love it!
I too am an Australian who has lived in the UK – for a couple of years we lived about an hour away from you, near Farnham in Surrey. I had always been interested in interior design but whilst in the UK I signed up for the KLC correspondence course, just before we had to return to Australia for family reasons… but I’m ashamed to say I just never started the work.
Still hopeful of doing so but in the meantime I will enjoy reading your posts.
Beautiful stuff, happy you appreciate Scandinavian design – my Dad’s Norwegian and I love visiting my relatives there.
All the best to you and your family for 2013.

Hi Maree, So lovely of you to visit! I’m always so glad to meet other KLCer’s and Aussies. Where abouts in Oz are you from? It is difficult with the distance learning course, and honestly it took me more than a year to start it and another year to get the first module done. But I found that once I got the first one in, it motivates you to continue. It’s still a constant battle with time to do it, but I have found that this blog has helped motivate me along the way. All the best and I hope you visit again soon. xD

I’m from Sydney originally but I’ve been living in Canberra for a long time (except for 2008-2009 when we were in Surrey).
Horrible time here at the moment – 70 fires across NSW and we are in one of the ‘catastrophic fire danger’ areas. Over 40 degrees the last 3 days and high 30s for 2 weeks before that. Emergency kits packed and ready to evacuate if need be… but hoping that won’t be necessary.
Envying cooler, wetter places like England 🙂

Sorry to hear about the bush fires. Keep safe and I’m crossing my fingers in hope of rain for you over here. xD
